London
we are strong women,
juggling with our many limbs,
responsibilities and stresses,
faces unmoved
we are statues,
balancing the planets in our hands,
but even strong women falter
under weighty expectations,
pressing down our shoulders
like a parachute
we do not pull the cord
until we are too close to the ground,
do not ask for help
until we know
our legs will break.
we are strong women,
crashing back to Earth,
gasping for air, a reprieve,
a moment’s calm,
and when we find it
every dam breaks –
the rivers of the world run free
